The New Criminal Code of Latvia

Abstract
The new Latvian Criminal Code is reviewed.
The General part consist of 69 articles. The legislator refused to include into this Part the sector on aims of Criminal Law. They also exluded concepts like “ especially dangerous recidivist” , “ dispense enforcing the sentence” , “ public reprimand” , etc.
The minor time for criminal liability is 14 years. No liability of “ corporate subject” is provided.
Only individual persons can be responsible.
Capital punishment still can be appointed for aggravated murder (murder of two and more persons, of people in public duty).
The upper limit of imprisonment is 15 years. But the opportunity exists to appoint up to 20 years for especially grave crimes.
