Development of Criminalistics in Poland

Abstract
The article seeks to overview the problems of criminalistics’ development in Poland. In the beginning of the XXth century after Poland regained its independence various expertise structures including forensic ones emerged and made up the material preconditions for the broadening of criminalistics. Regardless of there were no specialised forensic science research institutions during the between–wars period, the practical application of criminalistics methods and means was comparable with the application in neighbouring countries. Rather plenty of methodical literature in criminalistics and monographs on particular questions were published in that period.
After the war the forensic science and practice were under the influence of the Soviet Union. However, gradually the centres of distinctive criminalistics started to develop that followed the ideas of Polish pre-war and Western scientists. After the change of formation in Poland the democratic changes in criminalistics induced its fast development. The qualitative changes in practical application were noticed too. Variety of opinions allows the development of forensic science. This is demonstrated in the recent years editions mentioned by the author.
Similar history, equivalent aims of Lithuania and Poland resembling social and economical situation and corresponding criminality development trends produce favorable conditions to strengthen and advance the cooperation in theoretical criminalistics and its practical application.
