Abstract

In most issues drug abuse prevention is described as the total sum of preventive means and programmes related to the reduction of drug demand. In such a context it is difficult to determine the police’ status and role within the preventive actions.
The article deals with the identification of the police role within the common drug abuse preventive activities. Particularities of the police status are based on the analysis of the following drug abuse prevention’s components: subject, means and participants.
The conclusions of the specific researches of the preventive programs effectiveness and the preventive programmes, which are prepared and implemented by the Lithuanian police, are taken into account for the presented recommendations.
