The Using Shoeprints for Crime Disclosing: the State and Perspective

Abstract
The article analyses how the footprints mentioned in the historical sources helped to assist in disclosing crimes as well as the recent situation of footprints used for the disclosing of crimes is examined. On the basis of their and other research works, the authors present the perspectives of the footprint investigation.
The main attention is paid to the newest footprint fixation technologies and to computer systems on footwear prints. Computer usage in investigation of crimes is not a new phenomenon; however, computer software on footwear prints is a new phenomenon not only in Lithuania but in Europe as well. The article acquaints not only with the possibilities and new developments of these systems, but proposes the principles of their implementation into the practice of law enforcement of Lithuania.
