Abstract

The article emphasises the importance of the grammaticality of legal language. The fluency and grammaticality of legal language mostly depends on clarity, precision, unambiguity and regularity of legal terms. Author is also analysing the situation in Lithuanian legal terminology and discussing the vocabularies of terms published during last ten years. There is no vocabulary of Lithuanian legal terms, however a part of defined legal terms may be found in the non–specialised dictionary of contemporary Lithuanian or in the dictionary of international terms if such terms are international. However these dictionaries are designed for ordinary speakers and definitions of legal terms may be lacking of scientific background or regularity. The conclusion is made that the multi–lingual vocabulary of legal terms may be undertaken to prepare on the base of the “Vocabulary of Legal Terms” by A. Ţiurlys. The vocabulary of legal terms may be undertaken to prepare on the base of the dictionaries of contemporary Lithuanian, the dictionaries of international terms and the “Dictionary of Definitions used in the Laws of the Republic of Lithuania” by R. Mockevičius.
