The peculiarities of adult education system in Lithuania

Abstract
In this paper adult education (teaching and educating) system peculiarities in Lithuania is analyzed on the basis of theoretical research, philosophical reflections, and statistical data. Education of human resources becomes quite problematic in view of the actuality of critical thinking and concurrency, and a rapid transfer towards postindustrial socioeconomic development stage in the country. Only in totalitarian regime countries the autonomy of higher education is still linked to the educational stimuli of the intellectual society.
It is rather important to stress that studies are a necessary but not the main step towards a conscious cognition and understanding the necessity of lifelong learning. This article reveals some challenges, like creating human capital, ensuring the realization of the main lifelong learning tasks which are identified in the Government's strategy, etc.
The main tasks of adult education are identified in order to give meaning to the concept of lifelong learning.
