Abstract
In this article problems of Lithuanian police personnel qualifications and competencies are analysed. It is stated that the police training can be further on concentrated in an „outside“ environment of its main client (Police Department of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Lithuania). Also the article states that the training of police personnel could and should be oriented towards the concept of a police as a social service for the citizens. The preventive work and social support for the community are becoming an integral part of the reforms in the era of “New Public Service”. The latter trends are more and more reflected in the area of alloting the main police training and professional competencies.
