The responsibilities of police officers have expanded significantly over the years. New operational challenges resulting from crises —such as the war in Ukraine, refugee movements, or the COVID-19 pandemic—have presented new challenges. Despite these new challenges, traditional responsibilities must remain a priority. Instead, continuous development and evaluation of measures and procedures are required. A lack of foresight can create risks in police operations and investigations. Youth crime prevention is one of these crucial aspects that law enforcement must address. Recent developments have significantly diverted attention from youth crime prevention. However, effective youth crime prevention plays a key role in long-term crime prevention. What approach does law enforcement take in handling juvenile delinquency, and what types of prevention strategies are applied? How do police officers interact with young offenders? These are essential questions that an evolving field of police science must examine.
