The research analyses law enforcement officials’ (namely, police, rescue service, environmental protection, and local authorities)1 use of supervision measures and direct coercion and how this concept manifests in legal acts. The main focus is two-fold: the right and ability of the official to choose the proper means of direct coercion and the legal certainty regarding its use, especially when used in self-defence. The legal analysis adopts a comparative approach and the analysis is further supplemented by expert surveys
