Abstract

The Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania embedding the idea of inalienable rights also provides possibility for individual to study. Due to successful fulfillment of this constitutional precondition, the number of students at universities considerably increased. Regarding number of students per ten thousand citizens, Lithuania has approached such countries as Denmark, France and Sweden. However, the level of education in Lithuania differs from the level in the above mentioned countries.
Lithuania is facing and will face in the nearest future big changes of labor market. In reference to employment structure, Lithuania is far-off from set standards nowadays.
Influence of labor market should be the major criteria modeling studies. Only the market is able to summarize continuous discussion on how many students, study programmes and high schools Lithuania needs.
