Abstract

The article discusses the socio-demographic characteristics of Lithuanian adult learners, on the basis of data of sociological research project "Adult Learners in Lithuania", which was carried out in the frame of the international project LLL2010. The study included 994 adult learners in Lithuania who where students of study programs of different educational levels, were 18 years and older and returned to the education system after no less than a two-year break.
In the first part of the article, the essential concepts of this study – adulthood and the adult learner are analysed. The second part focuses on adult socio-demographic characteristics (gender, age, native language, family status), economic status, income level (main occupation, employment sector, income level), consistency of their course of education (direction of respondents’ progress through the education system, duration of break in education).
