Abstract
The aim of the article is to discuss the practical usage of enabling strategies while working with a woman-mother in the program „Šeimos užuovėja“ (Family shelter).
A qualitative ethnographical research method is used to reveal a phenomenon under study in its natural surrounding, to explore and to experience the lives of respondents. The research involved three stages: participation in research environment, discovery of important things for respondents and taking notes of what has been noticed.
The article reveals interaction between theory and enabling strategies used in „Šeimos užuovėja“ (Family shelter) program and clients’ opinion about services provided for them. The research analyses several enabling strategies: education, self-help, strengthening social competencies, developing social support network and emotional acceptance.
