Abstract

The article deals with a form of human trafficking, i.e. child trafficking. Latency of human trafficking phenomena, inadequate focus of the state on the protection of the rights of a child, scope and structure of study of child trafficking, insufficiency of prevention possibilities, lack of statistics all contribute to the fact that as far as overall social issues in Lithuania are concerned human trafficking is classified as a very complex and unexplored phenomenon.
Seeking to discover ways to help victims of child trafficking to reach prevention, semi-structural interview was employed to survey professionals helping children victims of child trafficking.
It has been established that child trafficking is determined by family issues (lack of attention given to child, absence of social connections, alcoholism), domestic violence, poverty, inadequate occupation of children, lack of value judgments, trust in other people, public indifference to the issue, lack of information on the issue. Unlike aid provided to adult victims of human trafficking, aid to child often involves arranging for his education, care and specific communication features. In order to help a child victim of child trafficking, focus should be on mediation, psychosocial rehabilitation, work with family, counselling, and development of social skills. Possibilities for prevention of aiding child trafficking victims have to do with the environment of a child, fostering child occupation and education, exchange of practice, and developing of social skills.
