Abstract

Social work practice in the institution of mental health care is analysed in this article revealing the characteristics of psychosocial rehabilitation model, the role of a social worker, the inner and the outer factors (determination to change the situation, personal communication style, the perception of environment and oneself, problems relating to social functioning and social network) that determine the need for rehabilitation of persons with long – term mental disability. The interview was taken from persons with long – term mental disability. The qualitative data analysis based on the interview allowed highlighting the needs of psychosocial rehabilitation, oriented to personal development of persons with mental disability which include the development of social skills (positive perception of one’s life circumstances, the formation of interpersonal relationships and independence from others, the acceptance and maintenance of support, the setting of personal priorities), health care skills (the recognition of mental illness or health problems, reconciliation, support searching) and supportive relatives (mother, father, sister, friend (s), community members (neighbours), the development of links concerning rehabilitation specialists).
