Abstract

The article discusses the changing nature of local communities in terms of formation of interorganizational partnerships. The central argument of this article that while modern local communities can be construed as providers of social services, they could also become an advantageous tool for the implementation of collective public interests and encouragement of civic participation. Theoretical considerations concerning the local community as a network of social relationships are illustrated by data from a case study. Empirical conclusions reveal problems of existing institutional mechanisms for local initiatives to participate in local decisions.
