Abstract
The article defines and discusses the New Public Management as well as indicates its need for public administration and local government. The first part discloses the concept of the New Public Management and presents its „ideal model“. The second part analyses the examples of implementing the New Public Management in some countries of the European Union – the Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Germany. The third part evaluates the signs, juxtaposes and perspectives of the New Public Management in Lithuania.
